Breton USA makes triple strides toward southern expansion

The spring season blossomed with activity as the Breton USA regional sales team took on three major events:
Coverings 2019, Stonite Surfaces Grand Opening, and ISFA Industry Round Table in the southern United States, along with upcoming National Stone Institute (NSI) Workshops in Overland, Virginia Beach, and Tampa.
Coverings 2019 in hindsight • Florida
Coverings is a global trade show with an expansive (2,100,000 square feet) roaming ground for purveyors of the tile and stone industry. This year, the event ran during April 9 – 12, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The exhibition hall was filled with a global collective of distributors, contractors, retailers, architects/designers, builders/remodelers and fabricators from U.S., Brazil, China, Italy, Spain, and Turkey.

With another Coverings trade show concluded, the Breton USA team carry on the momentum of garnering new names for the growing list of stone CNC machine clients. Present at the show were Egon Hinss, national sales manager, along with sales agents: John Fallon, Graham Tait, Alex Bores, Gerry Van Der Bas, Kav Houshmand and service technician, Stefano Pegoraro. Over the course of four days, the sales and services team formed connections with visitors who were among the trade show attendance of 26,000 tile and stone professionals. The booth gathered foot traffic that lead to many promising discussions.

“Having the Combicut at the booth was a fantastic draw for folks to view the massive Breton construction up close.”
— John Fallon, Breton USA east coast sales agent
One of the hot topics of conversation at the booth revolved around the Combicut DJ/NC 550. Attendees marveled at the live display of Breton’s leading CNC machine, which features a diamond bridge saw blade and waterjet system combination.
Stonite Surfaces Grand Opening • Texas
On April 25, 2019, Stonite Surfaces celebrated their grand opening. Located in San Marcos, Texas, in between Austin and San Antonio, the company is nestled in an area that will quickly converge into a bustling spot for a burgeoning market. The current building has enough capacity for expansion in machinery and inventory.

“The population of San Marcos has nearly doubled in the past 18 years. The continued expansion in population will equate to booming development with both residential homes and commercial businesses popping up and having the need for building contractors and places like Stonite Surfaces to keep up with the growth.” — Graham Tait, Breton USA sales agent

Chester Layne, president of Stonite shared a few words prior to the ribbon cutting ceremony. According to Layne, the company was created with the intent of helping Texas grow, with a focus on commercial and residential projects. While developing their business plan, the Stonite team committed to providing the highest quality in products available in the area. They selected an array of top of the line machinery on the market, including the Smartcut S/NC 550 Optima and Contourbreton NC 300 K 26 (now called the Forte Wide, a premium CNC router) by Breton.

“When we decided to open our new shop in San Marcos, Breton was the company we called for pricing on our equipment. In my past experience, I have used both the NC 550 saw in a couple of the shops I managed. With its speed, it allows us to cut normal jobs and miter with no slow down.  It also [lets] us to move pieces around to get the best yield and look of the material we are cutting. We [also] decided on the NC 300 K 26 for the experience, which I have at other shops. We have used Breton equipment for 20 years, and don’t plan on changing anytime soon.” — Chester Layne, president of Stonite Surfaces in San Marcos, Texas

Smartcut S/NC 550 Optima has five interpolated axes, a rotating head, fixed work bench, and is designed to perform multiple machining operations which would otherwise require several machines. The Optima features an integrated suction cup system that optimizes stone cutting by moving pieces around the worktable more efficiently. A CNC machinist can now cut slabs, shape and dish out small blocks, engrave inscriptions, and drill with both a diamond blade and the stone tool.

Contourbreton NC 300 K 26 is equipped powerful spindle built by Breton, with closed-circuit liquid cooled with three large-diameter high-performance ceramic bearings specifically designed to operate with ISO 40 cones. The engineering specs of the Contourbreton ensure that in all conditions, the torque and power required to perform each machining operation in the shortest time technically possible. Precision is rendered by the ability to maneuver in minimal spaces, with ample use of working “x” strokes of 3,800 mm and “y” strokes of in the K 26 model.
This heavy-duty CNC contouring machine offers maximum accessibility to the continuous work bench in Metalquartz®, a special patented quartz compound in polymer matrix, engineered to guarantee high rigidity and a coefficient of expansion consistent with steel.
ISFA Industry Roundtable • Georgia
On May 6 – 8, 2019, the ISFA Industry Roundtable (a networking event for the surfacing industry) hosted and sponsored by a Breton client manufacturer of engineered stone: LG Hausys, in Atlanta, Georgia. The Adairsville plant manufactures Viatera®, a striking non-porous material that is highly durable against physical wear and damage. Its mineral properties are aligned with Breton and LG’s mode of embracing sustainable, eco-friendly materials for high customer value in providing a resilient surface. Read more about Viatera®, along with Breton Terastone® on the Bretonstone® article.
Much of the domestic growth in the southeast is attributed to the leadership of Egon Hinss, the national sales manager of Breton USA (promoted in September 2018) and fellow resident of Atlanta, Georgia.
